McKinsey Quaterly pubblica un'intervista al vice presidente del Sud Africa, Kgalema Motlanthe. Il Paese fa parte dei BRIC, l'alleanza degli emergenti costruita attorno a Brasile, India e Cina. Due passaggi notevoli:
- sulla cooperazione cinese in Africa: In Angola, per ricostruire le ferrovie, hanno acceso un prestito di 2 Mni $. Condizioni: 30% di manod'opera locale, 70% cinese; orario di lavoro "Platoon", cioè 7 su 7 giorni di lavoro. Se i locali dopo un mese abbandonano, non abituati a questo ritmo, vengono sostituiti da cinesi, e molti progetti finiscono con il 100% di manod'opera cinese.
- sui valori nel mondo degli affari: Gli affari coinvolgono la gente, il senso di responsabilità, che dipendde dall'integrità. Occorre un approccio di lungo periodo. It’s important to always understand that business is about people. It’s about good will, and that good will depends on integrity. It depends on ensuring that there is good in what we do, rather than doing business as though you are in a casino, as it were. It’s important for businesspeople to understand that business stands to gain better if they take a long-term view, rather than to try and make quick profits, which would just be spikes, and tomorrow, once you lose the good will, the business is bound to flounder. And that is why values are very, very important.
